VisitEngland Award for Middleport Pottery

Middleport Pottery secures VisitEngland stamp of quality

Middleport Pottery has been given a glowing review by the national tourist board VisitEngland after passing an assessment with flying colours.

Following its very first VisitEngland quality assessment last month, the home of Burleigh pottery has just been awarded the official accreditation of VisitEngland Quality Assured Visitor Attraction.

The Pottery received an impressive 84% score after a visit by an unannounced assessor who reviewed all aspects of the visitor experience, including the website, promotional material, the booking process, and customer service.

Visit England said the Pottery’s best features were the consistently high levels of customer service, the well-presented Burleigh shop and the opportunity for sightseers to explore the working factory on a guided tour.

Its report described the factory tour as “excellent”, with the volunteer guide praised for being “extremely knowledgeable” and having “great enthusiasm”.

The consistently high levels of customer service was also flagged up as a highlight.

It went on to say that if suggested improvements are made, this “would make nomination for accolades a realistic aspiration for the future”.

The accreditation comes after the Pottery received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence in May for its glowing visitor feedback on the travel review website.

One of Britain’s last working Victorian potteries, Middleport Pottery has experienced rising visitor numbers since it reopened last July following a £9million restoration by PRT.
